Is Blue Tiger's Eye Natural?
Blue tiger’s eye crystal is a form of quartz that is partly natural and partly man-made. Geologists believed that the tiger’s eye stone was a pseudomorph, where quartz replaced crocidolite. Silky asbestos fiber is trapped within the SiO2 and gives a particular bluish sheen.
If that iron oxidizes before it gets bonded within the silica, it turns brown and becomes a golden tiger’s eye. More than 50 years ago I dug all colors of Tiger’s Eye out of the ground in parts of South Africa. These colors include, Gold (plentiful), Red (not quite so plentiful) and Blue and Green. They occur naturally. And of course, many times the colors are mixed or combined in a single stone. I still have some big chunks of the raw stone in my possession. I haven’t lived in southern Africa for many years, but I can assure you that all colors of Tiger’s Eye (an many other gemstones) occurred naturally, and in abundance, in southern Africa. I know that Brazil and other countries color-dye stones, but the southern African ones that occur naturally are much more beautiful.
